From time to time I want to please myself with a salted herring, and there is nothing wrong with that. After all, the product is very simple and tasty, in addition, it serves as the basis for many popular dishes that flaunt on our table even on New Year's holidays. And such a herring can be salted at home, and this does not require much time.
And today the editors "So simple!" offers herring salting recipe, which will give odds to any store counterparts. And by the simplicity of preparation, this method simply has no equal, because in addition to the herring itself and the salting tank, almost nothing else is needed. And yes, we’ll cook the fish right in the three-liter jar, because it’s the most convenient way.
- 5-6 pieces of herring
- 2 l water
- 6 tbsp. l salt (with a slide)
- bay leaves and peppercorns to taste
- I wash the whole herring thoroughly. Fold in a three-liter jar. If desired, you can salt and less fish.
- Make a brine in a separate container. For this, an ordinary two-liter jar with clean drinking water (you can boil it over) will do. Add the indicated amount of salt to the water and mix well.
- If desired, add bay leaf and pepper in a jar of herring.
- Now pour the herring with brine to the very neck. Close the jar with a lid and refrigerate. Save the remaining brine – they will come in handy later.
- After 1-2 days, you can already start to try herring. When you get one herring, fill the vacant place in the jar with the previously saved brine so that the remaining fish continues to become even tastier.
Such a herring is prepared quickly, and stored for a long time. And the longer it will stand in the brine, the more it will look like a real barrel fish. Of course, you can salt herring in small pieces, but such a product is unlikely to work for “fur coats” and other New Year's salads.
